The round trip from Arizona to Colorado and back is normally over four days:
Day 1:
Load in Tucson/Phoenix/Scottsdale areas and start heading north towards Flagstaff. Pickup I-40 east to our target overnight layover. There are several options and which one we choose is dependent on when we get loaded and headed down the road. Grants is our favorite stop and there are several places where we can park and off load horses into safe stalls.
Day 2:
Load horses and get on the road around 7am. Continue east on I-40 to Alburquerque and head north on I-25 through Santa Fe and up over the Raton Pass into Colorado. This is where we transition from high desert to mountain vistas. Through Trinidad, Pueblo, Colorado Springs and into the Denver area. Most trips continue up to Fort Collins. Our goal is to have all horses delivered before we get parked for the night.
Day 3:
Load in the Fort Collins/Denver area and head south on I-25, west on I-40 to overnight in Grants.
Day 4:
Load horses and get on the road around 7am> Continue west on I-40 to Flagstaff and then south on I-17 down into the valley of the sun. This stretch of road goes from the high pines down several long descents into the Pheonix/Scottsdale area. Drop off horses and then get on I-10 to Tucson to drop off horses before heading home to Hereford, AZ to be welcomed by my dear wife and enthusiastic dogs.
